Well-Being Package
TPO also provides a Well being Package for employees from various organizations who would like to seek assistance for problems that affect their lives in the workplace and in the home. The goal of the program is to help the employee retain his/her job and receive support for any problems that may be impacting on their performance at work.


Expected outcomes for staff from the Staff Well-being Package would be:

•    A professional service underpinned by complete confidentiality

•    Alleviation of stress and/or improved sense of well-being by addressing personal stress and manage factors that improve staff's wellbeing

•    Improving personal satisfaction with regards to the staff member’s job performance


Expected outcomes for the organization from the Staff Well-being Package would be:

•    A support mechanism for the staff

•    Advice and guidance in responding to specific situations which will help the management respond to current and future problems, as well as improve staff well-being and performance.

•    A reduction in absence or sickness through positive interventions, especially when mental health issues are the reason for staff absence.  

•    Realization that the management values staff well being as well as work performance will encourage staff and increase motivation.

•    A friendlier and more supportive working environment with improved employee relationships.

 Dr. Chhim Sotheara, MD.University of Health Sciences (UoHS). Psychiatrist UoHS & Oslo University. Master of Psychological Medicine (MPM), New South Wales University, Sydney, Australia. Ph.D Candidate Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Dr Chhim has been working in mental health field for the past 16 years, his special interest is in trauma and cross-cultural issues.
 
Dr. Ang Sody, MD and well-known psychiatrist, has been providing psychiatric treatment to people with mental disorder since 1994. She is also a supervisor and trainer to young professional staffs who are offering counseling and psychotherapy to client at TPO treatment center.

 

Ms. Sok phaneth, Master of Science in Counseling Psychology, has been offering counseling and psychotherapy for 8 years to children, adolescent and young adults with behaviors and emotional problem and/or with trauma. She is trained in using Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Positive Therapy, techniques that have been proved to be highly effective. She is currently a counseling supervisor for community mental health project of TPO.

 

 Mr. Vith Kimly, B.A in psychology, MBA, Training Coordinator, working as a trainer and counselor with experiences in community mental health since 2004 and with TPO treatment center since 2006. He provides psychosocial and mental health support to person with server problem such as domestic violence, alcoholic problem, family conflict, stress, anxiety and depression. He is also currently a supervisor for community mental health project of TPO.
 
 

Dr. Keo Sothy, MD and psychiatrist, has been experienced in offering treatment to mentally ill patient since 2000. He is also taking part in offering training to young professional.

 


Mr. Thap Sokchea, B.A in psychology and M.A in clinical psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam, this degree awarded by University of Toulouse II (France). He has been providing counseling and psychotherapy to children and adolescent for 3 years. He also provides training on clinical skill to other agencies.
 Mr. Pich Panha, B.A in psychology and M.A in Public Health University of Cambodia. He is a project coordinator and a trainer. He has been offering counseling and psychotherapy. He is good at using CBT in providing counseling.
 

Ms. Bou Vannary was part of the first cohort to graduate from Psychiatric Nurse Training in Cambodia. She has been working with TPO for more than 10 years - offering counseling, psycho-education, and assisting with medication. She was also responsible for conducting community-based counseling with victims of domestic violence and couples with relationship problems. In January 2010 she joined the Khmer Rouge Tribunal team, providing in-person and phone counselling to survivors of the regime. Before joining TPO, Ms. Vannary worked for eight years at Kandal Provincial Hospital in general care, child mental health and community work.

 

 

Mrs. Chhay Marideth has worked with TPO for 15 years. From 1995-2007 she served as the team leader for the Community Psychosocial Support outreach project. In this capacity she provided individual and family counselling and facilitated the set-up of self-help groups. She also provided psycho-education to the community. In 2007 she became part of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal team, where she conducts psychological assessments of Khmer Rouge survivors and provides psychological counselling and basic legal counselling to civil parties. Concurrent to her work at TPO, Mrs. Marideth has also worked as a psychosocial trainer and counsellor at the Department of Law Protection at the Ministry of Women's Affairs.

 

 
Ms. Peng Vanny, an experience counselor and trainer, has been working with TPO for the past 10 years. She is a well known counselor and has been working with variety of client and with all age group. She is also working with people with communication difficulties, relationship issues and other type of mental health problems. She has a lot of experiences in setting up Self Help Group for women with mental health and psychosocial problem such as domestic violence and alcoholism in community.

 Mr. Seang Leap, B.A in psychology, have been joining TPO for the past ..... years and working with people who are suffering from Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Somatoform disorder. He is currently is Coordinating the training offer to one of UNICEF project. He was a clinical supervisor to other counselor of TPO's community mental health project.
 Ms. Chea So Ousaphea, Is a general nurse and a receptionist,. She has been working with TPO in a clinic since the past 4 years. She offers psycho-education to  our clients about how to use medicine and provides other information about psychiatric treatment.

Mrs. Pov Maline is the 1999 receipient of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)'s Fellowship Program on Mental Health Teacher Training. She received her specialist diploma in psychiatric nursing in 2000 from the University of Philippines, Manila, before working for seven years in the Department of Mental Health, Battambang Referral Hospital. During her tenure at the Battambang Referral Hospital she received training in mental health and attachment problems in children and adolescents. Before specialising in mental health, she provided general nursing services in the surgical ward and epidemic centre of the hospital. She transferred to TPO in early 2007, where she is part of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal team, providing psychological counselling and case management to survivors.

  

Mr. Taing Sieng Hun has had 15 years of experience in social work and counselling. From 1993-1996, Mr. Hun was a case worker at the Khmer Buddhist Society under Project REACH. He provided home care for more than 200 clients with psychosocial problems and/or physical illness, including HIV/AIDS. As part of this service, he conducted psychosocial assessments and developed individualised service plans for the clients. From 1996-2002, he worked as a trainer at Social Service of Cambodia (SSC), developing cirricula and conducting training in basic social work for staff of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor and Veterans' Affairs as well as NGOs. As a social worker in the same company, Mr. Hun facilitated group counselling sessions and participated in individual and group supervision. He was promoted to program supervisor at the SSC in 2002, coordinating project activities and meetings with local authorites. In 2007, he transferred to TPO as part of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal team.

 


Mr. Yourn Sarath, graduated from in case management from Rhode Island College in 2005. From 2005-2009 he worked as a case manager in Veterans International Cambodia. He directed all programmatic elements of the integration of deported Cambodians, including cultural orientations, case management, family location, education, housing and employment placement support. He also worked directly with clients, providing group and individual counselling. Before this, he worked at the Cambodia HIV/AIDS project as a project officer, where he conducted client assessment and served as a client resource person. In 2004 he worked with the Cambodia Harm Reduction Collaborative as an outreach officer, monitoring the effectiveness of programme development with high risk youth, drug users and the HIV/AIDS community. Mr. Sarath joined the Khmer Rouge Tribunal team in TPO in 2009.

 

 

Miss Om Chariya graduated in psychology from the Royal University of Phnom Penh in 2006. From 2006-2009 she worked in the Emotional Support Team of the Public Forum Unit at the Center for Social Development as a psychological assistant. She co-facilitated the preparation of Public Forum Phases on “Justice and National Reconciliation” throughout various provinces as well as provided counselling to participants. In late 2009 Miss Chariya transferred to the Psychosocial Program at the Center for Justice and Reconciliation as a psychosocial support specialist. In this capacity she provided counselling to civil party applicants at outreach meetings and facilitated psychosocial workshops for Khmer Rouge victims and second generation victims. Miss Chariya joined TPO in April 2010 as part of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal team.

TPO Clinical Services

TPO Clinic

The essence of TPO is the in-house clinic which caters to men, women and children from all over Cambodia seeking treatment and support for various mental and emotional health problems. The TPO clinic consists of eight psychologists and two psychiatrists who provide psychological counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatric services to deal with:


•    Stress

•    Anxiety

•    Depression

•    Sleep difficulties

•    Low self-esteem / Low self-confidence

•    Relationship difficulties

•    Problems at work

•    Coping with grief and loss

•    The effects of trauma

•    Problems from childhood

•    Problems with alcohol

•    Major psychiatric problems


In 2009 alone, 5,071 (2,226 men, and 2,845 women) existing clients visited the TPO clinic for consultations, and 4,470 (1992 male and 2478 female) came back for follow up consultations. Of these 5,071 clients, 601 were newly registered clients, more than half of whom were from the Phnom Penh area, and the rest from 19 other provinces in Cambodia.

TPO Trainings


TPO trainers provide a number of trainings for individuals, organizations and community groups to raise awareness and build technical capacity on mental and emotional health issues.  These training modules have been sensitively developed for relevance and application within the Cambodian context. Currently TPO provides trainings on:

•    Basic Counseling Skills

•    Advance Counseling Skills

•    Child Development and Parenting Skills

•    Basic Mental Health and Coping strategies

 

In addition to the existing trainings, TPO also designs customized trainings to cater to the specific needs of organizations.  The trainings are designed after a thorough assessment of the strengths, needs and gaps in the capacity of the staff, program, and organization.

History
Transcultural Psychosocial Organisation (TPO) - the Community Mental Health Programme was established in Cambodia in February 1995 as a branch of the Netherlands based TPO International. The Programme was developed in response to the need to heal the psychological wounds of the Cambodian people caused by the civil war and the genocidal regime between 1975 -1979, and care for those who suffer from psychosocial and mental health problems. These include stress related mental disorder, anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Since 2000, TPO Cambodia has been registered as a Local Non Government Organisation (NGO). The organisation consists of a multi-disciplinary team, including Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychologists, Psychiatric Nurse, Medical Doctor, Medical Assistants, Nurses and Midwife, Social workers and Experienced Community Workers.

To accomplish its mission, TPO Cambodia has been working in collaboration with a number of Government Ministries especially the National Program for Mental Health (NPMH) of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Social Affairs and with International and Local NGOs such as Handicap International (HI), UNICEF, Licadho, Adhoc and several other NGOs.
