TPO Cambodia

TPO - Cambodia provides training courses to a wide range of local and international NGO's on a variety of psycho-social topics. Courses on basic counselling skills are also provided, as well as clinical supervision and consultancy. These training courses are prepared and produced in collaboration with the requesting organisation.

TPO trainers provide a number of trainings for individuals, organizations and community groups to raise awareness and build technical capacity on mental and emotional health issues. 

These training modules have been sensitively developed for relevance and application within the Cambodian context. Currently TPO provides trainings on:

•    Stress Management

•    Basic Counseling Skills

•    Advance Counseling Skills

•    Child Development and Parenting Skills

•    Basic Mental Health and Coping strategies

In addition to the existing trainings, TPO also designs customized trainings to cater to the specific needs of organizations.  The trainings are designed after a thorough assessment of the strengths, needs and gaps in the capacity of the staff, program, and organization.

 Our trained and experienced counselors provide psychological interventions through counseling sessions with individuals who suffer from psychosocial and mental health problems. This service is available for Cambodians at our TPO offices in the provinces where we work, and for both Cambodians and expatriates at the TPO Central Office in Phnom Penh (please refer to our addresses below).

Clients who suffer from major mental health disorder can receive psychiatric treatment from our psychiatrists. This service is available at the TPO Central Office in Phnom Penh. Our provincial teams will also refer some mentally-ill people in the target communities, who would benefit further from psychiatric treatment, to mental health clinics in the provincial referral hospital.

TPO Clinic

The essence of TPO is the in-house clinic which caters to men, women and children from all over Cambodia seeking treatment and support for various mental and emotional health problems. The TPO clinic consists of eight psychologists and two psychiatrists who provide psychological counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatric services to deal with:

•    Stress

•    Anxiety

•    Depression

•    Sleep difficulties

•    Low self-esteem / Low self-confidence

•    Relationship difficulties

•    Problems at work

•    Coping with grief and loss

•    The effects of trauma

•    Problems from childhood

•    Problems with alcohol

•    Major psychiatric problems

In 2009 alone, 5,071 (2,226 men, and 2,845 women) existing clients visited the TPO clinic for consultations, and 4,470 (1992 male and 2478 female) came back for follow up consultations. Of these 5,071 clients, 601 were newly registered clients, more than half of whom were from the Phnom Penh area, and the rest from 19 other provinces in Cambodia.
